There was a time, the beginning of 20th century when the children from very few houses were going to school off from their living place. There were no schools nearby Ashok Nagar. As more and more parents wishing their children to go to school, a benevolent person Mr P. Shankarnarayanappayya started a school in his own house in Hoigebail Ashok Nagar during the year 1928. When the place asto accommodate more children was not enough, a philanthropist Mr. Ugrani Krishnayya donated his 10 cents of land for the school building. With the help of donors a new tiled roof school building was constructed and eventually changed to a RCC building.
Slowly the students strength started increasing it was finding difficult to accommodate all the children. At that time our well wisher Shri B Venkat Rao and his wife Smt. Shantha Bai, a teacher of the Kannada medium school were kind enough to donate their 26 cents land, little away
from that school to construct another building. A new tiled roof building was constructed with the help of donars and by hard work done by the teachers by way of N.S.C. post office saving scheme commission. During 1980 the strength of the school reached 1015 having 27 teachers.
As and when this fast developing world started attracting more jobs in I.T. B.T. companies and everything started becoming global, the necessity to educate children in English medium , found necessary. Hence the student strength in our Kannada medium school started reducing
Seeing this big change in the education system our school management "Ashok Nagar Vidya vardhaka sanga " decided to start Ashok Nagar English medium school in a small portion of the Kannada medium school. On 4/6/2000 Nursery section was opened by then DDPI Mr K.Rajan and our MLA Mr Yogesh Bhat having 18 children with two teachers
Now this school has recorded exponential growth and is now a full fledged co-educational school with a strength of 500 students with 20 teachers. Ashoka Vidyalaya believes in imparting quality education to the under privileged sections of the society. The school management spares no effort to encourage needy students to pursue their education. Around 30 to 40 students are also given scholarships for their education.
From a tiled roof now we have completed a new concrete two floors building which is fully equipped with science and computer lab, library, a new staff room and an open hall for conducting school programmes. We can expect more developments in the coming future.
Ashoka Vidyalaya aims at helping the students to meet challenges and pursue their goals . It strives to develop the personal development skills through meditation and yoga. Teaching and learning is undertaken by means of innovative practices where students get involved in their studies. We mould in such a way that they are able to improve their character, intelligence, self confidence and personality. We give a safe and supportive learning environment to our students who can be good achievers and citizens of tomorrow.
